The US Navy Sea Cadet Corps is a JROTC-type organization, based in
most maritime nations world-wide, for youths ages 11-17.  It is
designed to teach our young American men and women training and
development in sea-going skills and to teach them patriotism, courage,
self-reliance and kindred values (per NSCC Charter - 36 USC 1541).
Founded in 1958, the NSCC has committed itself to providing
American youth with a drug and alcohol-free environment to foster
their leadership abilities, broaden theirs horizons through hands-on
training and guide them to become mature young adults.
Locally, the Iron Side Division of the NSCC is based out of the American
Legion building in Carlton, Oregon and trains youths from McMinnville
and surrounding communities.  Although off to an excellent start, the
Iron Side Division is still in it's infancy stage and support from Veterans
organizations and the community is urgently needed.
The division is under the command of Ensign Eric R Ruffner and a staff
of active duty personnel, Veterans, former cadets and parents of active
cadets who have done a remarkable job in the exhaustive work it takes
to make this organization prosper.
As stated before, the Sea Cadet Corps are always looking for new
recruits and help from the community.  Below are some helpful links to
the Sea Cadet Corps organization, such as blog, email and their
national website.
